As a humorous illustrator, I felt intimidated by the fancy, schmancy works of the members of the NY Society of Illustrators. They seemed like such a bunch of snobs and I was just starting to find my legs as a fine art humorist.
Then came the Application for their never-before-done HUMOR show. It was my moment to act. I pulled several of my best humor pieces together and sent in my images for them to evaluate.
I really didn't expect much.
But much to my surprise, they replied with: CONGRATULATIONS: You have been accepted into the NY Society of Illustrators Humor Show - out of 3500 entries, you have been included in the physical show in NYC at our showroom in the 155 accepted works of humorous art. You will also be receiving an award.
Sooooo...flash forward and I show up with my parents and grandmother all expectant. As the festivities progressed, it was time for the awards. I waited. The Silver Awards were given first to five entries, all great, some from overseas.
Then came the Gold Awards. And being only 2 of those, I waited again. Then, unbelievably, they called my name for the Gold Award.
I had won a Gold Award from this prestigitous art organization out of 3500 other entries.
I was astounded! It was the launch of my fine are humor career!
